How to Become a Business Consultant

The business world is full of ups and downs. It is like unstable waters that you never know the direction of its flow. Many people the world over depend on business activities for survival. In fact the economies of all nations depend largely on the activities of businesses. Without business, there will be no economy, without economy there will be no nation, without nations, there will be no existence, without the existence of all of us, there will be no world!

Business is life! Business begat money that the entire world depends on. There is no human being under the sun that has never use money or will never use money, which largely accrue as a result of business activities.

Becoming a business consultant is a huge money making venture to be in. This is because, everybody as well as businesses needs you to survive or make informed decision. This is an exciting area to be, don’t you think so? You are look upon like a semi-god, you are envied by your peers, you are appreciated by the people (clients) you touch and the nation at large.

I have been in this field for only four years but what I experience in the industry is like I’ve been there all my life. The experience of getting problems solved for your clients, working on big and difficult projects, always thinking to make things work and the huge fee that comes out of it is very exciting.

So what do you need to become a business consultant? There are two key things you need to have to become a consultant. These are Knowledge and Information.

These two key things though few in number embrace the entire universe! Knowledge is the key factor in whatever you do. When you don’t have the knowledge of something, you are ignorant of it. And when you are ignorant of something, you are bound to be either afraid of it or make costly mistakes. The Holy Bible says, “my people perish for lack of knowledge” There is nothing as true as this statement.

For you to become a business consultant, you must have knowledge of business administration, finance, economics, mathematics and accounting. Above all, you must know the key elements of business consulting, which is Writing & Conducting Feasibility Studies, Writing Business Plan/Market Research, Writing International Joint Venture Partnership Memorandum, and developing Personnel Handbook or Manual.

Did this list scare you? Don’t worry, because of the number of people who have been sending and calling me for the first e-book (305 small businesses you can start anywhere and make real money), I’m motivated to write another e-book titled “How to Become a Business Consultant”. This e-book specify in details the key elements of business consulting and what you need to know to become a business consultant; and also present resources therein that will make you one.

To get your copy of the e-book keep visiting this blog, I'll soon incorporate the e-books on this blog.

Knowledge is acquired through information. For you to be a consultant, you must have information at your finger tips. You must have information not just in the field of business but in most fields including medicine. This is because, all these other fields form part of business activities. The operation of a hospital is a form of business.
So if a doctor wants to set up a hospital and comes to you as a business consultant to seek your professional direction, it is your duty to guide him and provide him with proper information. And how will you give him proper information if you do not have it?

That is why as a business consultant, you read every book or material that you see, you watch the trends of events, you listen to news, you attend events, you go to the market and whatever that is worth doing. This is to gather as much information as you can that you may need sooner or later.

As rewarding as the job of a consultant is, I must warn it is a busy job. It is not for lazy people. If you are the type of person that like it easy, then, look for something else to do; because don’t start what you can’t finish.

INTERNAL PROMOTION AND SUCCESSION PLANNING

Promotion comes as a result of ones performance on the job over a period of time, or it could be said to be an advancement in ones profession. Succession on the other hand is a shift in position as a result of promotion, transfer, retirement or death of others. It could be as well a change in policy of an organisation leading to reorganisation of operations and human resources. Getting succession right is vital. There are two approaches that can be used at different times to ensure success. The internal selection approach advocates choosing successors from within, to ensure a smooth transition, preserve company values, and encourage employees by showing a potential career path. Most organisations struggle with how to turn succession into success. It is necessary to use either internal selection or the Darwinian approach at different levels or at different times. For example, a high percentage (80%) of senior roles may be internally appointed, while junior roles are sel...

GREEDY PEOPLE, POOR NATION

A holy man was having a conversation with the Lord one day and said, 'Lord, I would like to know what Heaven and Hell are like. The Lord led the holy man to two doors. He opened one of the doors and the holy man looked in.  In the middle of the room was a large round table.  In the middle of the table was a large pot of stew, which smelled delicious and made the holy man's mouth water. The people sitting around the table were thin and sickly.  They appeared to be famished.  They were holding spoons with very long handles that were strapped to their arms and each found it possible to reach into the pot of stew and take a spoonful.  But because the handle was longer than their arms, they could not get the spoons back into their mouths. The holy man shuddered at the sight of their misery and suffering. The Lord said, 'You have seen Hell.' They went to the next room and opened the door.  It was exactly the same as the first one.  There was the la...

Reasons for most Business Failures

There has been rampant cases of business failures both in the past and at present.  One wondered what is behind this.  Some even make assertions that the business world has collapsed, some says businessmen has joined the political wagon that they have failed to differentiate between business capital and profit. All these assertions have no basis.  You may ask what then has been behind most business failures?  The answer to this question is simple “poor customer relations”. One of the single greatest key to long-term business success can be summed up in three simple words: Quality customer service. Yet as customers, you and I are aware that quality customer service is far too rare these days in spite that many business organisations have invested heavily in this unit but few actually make any headway.  Why is excellent service so rare? There are three reasons for this.             Employees don’t know t...
